Sarees..and SARees..and..SAREES..and SAREES!!!!

Turn on the TV.....
Now a days ADS seems to be dominating the scene ....that too TEXTILE SHOP ads (particularly SAREES ) .
The songs for these shops have become more famous than our ARR,Ilayan.
For example..."Ranganathan theruvodae super star...." song ad comes whenever I tune into any Tamil channel. Hmnn.. All ads are very colorful and lovely. They are casting in some of the very famous actresses to make it more famous. Initially it was Sneha,Jytohika ( remember that 50,000 colors).
Recently it has been Sonia Agarwal( Eduthukoo...eduthukoo) and Nila,Abbas.

Last week when I went to a shop for my Diwali Purchase. Oh man. The crowd was so much that could not even get inside the shop. This wasnt the case with that shop alone. Every other shop this is the scenario. Good for all the business people.

Illayaraja and ARR Conversation

Somehow this photo seems to attract me sooooooooo..much
Everytime I see this I feel ilayan is saying something and ARR nodding to that...like
1) Ethukku paaa ippadi kasta padurrae ( Why are toiling so much like this ? )
2) Niraya padam panna maatengara..ethukku ( Why arent you doing many films now a days ? )
3) Eppadi panninae anthae song ( How did you compose that tune ?)

MAJAA Songs

The much expected (bcos of VIKRAM obviously) MAJAA audio got released.
Here are my comments on it.

1) Chee Chee Chee - It starts something like "Vanitha mani vana mogini" style and reminds us of songs like "Aasai aasai ippoluthu". It is melodious. Shankar Mahadevan has done what he is asked for :)
2) Hey Pangali - Typical "Koduvaa Meesai Aruva Paarvai" style song..infact lot of influences from that song
3) Podhumada Saami - Nothing special about this song except for Kailashkher's voice.( You cant stop the influence of his voice and tune ..Mangal Mangal..Mangal Pandey )
4) Sollitharava Solli - Another Melodious number. Madhu.B and Sadhana Sargam have done an excellent jobs. Dont miss those lines when Sadhana says "Sollitharavaaaa"...its excellent.
5) Thaimaasam Oora - Instant "HIT". As usual Shankar and Anuradha Sriram were called for this Folk number.

My Rating of songs would be in the following order

Now a days if you tune into SUNMUSIC - the climax song "Ra Ra" is played over again and again and it is always a treat to see it how much ever times they play it. But this climax song wasnt played on any channel for atleast the first 100 days. Just see below ... the TAMIL and MALAYALAM chandramukhi. ( My vote is for Jyothika..great performance )

GAJINI

FIRST THINGS FIRST

One word to explain about the movie..It is "BRILLIANT" in every aspect. Terrific performance by SURYA. I believe most of the people must be knowing the important knot of the story that the hero can remember anything only for 15 mins( This is so much like our dear S.J.Surya who always tells the story of his movies in advance). I too knew about this and I was so curious of how the director would be using this knot.I had so many questions.... how,why etc....

STORY :

The basic story line is simple - SURYA (Sanjay Ramasamy) is one of the biggest businessmen in INDIA for AIRVOICE Mobile services(..inspired from AIRTEL). ASIN plays the role of model who plays the second fiddle in the ads and wants to become more popular. The hoarding of SURYA's company has to be put in ASIN's house. So the company people come and ask her permission. Her ad agency misunderstands the situation and believes, her to be close
to SURYA. She does takes advantage of the scenario and starts saying that SURYA is her lover. She even gives this as an interview to a famous magazine. They publish it. SURYA gets frustrated as he gets calls from various people asking abt the matter. As he starts to meet ASIN , he finds somebody(vera yaar namma ASIN thaan...) helping a few handicapped children crossing the road. He gets impressed with that scene rather the girl. Later when he sees
her, he is surprised to see ASIN as she was the helping person. Later they both fell in love. ASIN doesn’t even know that SURYA is Sanjay Ramasamy and he too doesn’t say the same as he wants her to love him rather than his status. Later things happen in such a way that ASIN helps some 25 children from getting kidnapped. As a result of it she is under danger ...to be killed by one of the DADA. SURYA returns from UK to reveal the truth. ASIN is killed by the DADA and they hit surya very hardly on his head. Later by the treatment he gets cured and the only thing doctor conveys is that he cannot remember anything more than 15 mins. That means if he starts a conversation with you, on the 16th minute he might asks a question "WHO ARE YOU ?" . But SURYA is so well planned ( even the director ) about everything. The only incident he remembers is ASIN getting murdered and the guy who killed her. Later the story runs on how SURYA finds and kills the villain rather villains even when all the proofs are being destroyed. In-between NAYANTHARA comes...helps...both villain(s) and HERO. It is a Tamil film right. So as usual HERO kills the villain(S).....SUBAM......( Appaadiii padam paartha effect irukkaaaa.... )

The biggest plus points for the movie are DIRECTOR + SURYA.
In every scene SURYA, MURUGADOSS compete with each other. Harris Jayaraj ( music director ) , Rajasekhar ( Cameraman ) also try to enter the competition in-between. But the tough battle is in-between the first two and SURYA emerges to be a clear winner. Classic performance by SURYA. All chances to be the next generation super hero.

Initially when I entered into movie hall with that 15 mins knot lot of thoughts were running into my mind ..... how murugadoss would be handling it. The initial scene where in the professor explains nayanthara about the 15 mins stuff. I was really amazed. Most of my questions were answered. Excellent start. The very next scene Surya starts showing his character. Every scene has to be applauded in the film. Usually in any interviews directors would say " oru oru
scene num sethukki irukken padathullae ". The above wordings go apt with GAJINI. Its very true that MDS( from now on Murugadoss will be called so ) has taken so much care.

I definitely want to share some of my favorite scene(s) though everything was worth mentioning

1) When Surya shows the photo of a street to the auto driver, we feel that he is going to make another murder attempt. But finally the street is where he lives.

2) Throughout the movie, SURYA is SMART ( both look wise and acting ). You have to see it.. say it whether the scene where he walks in to his office or his mannerisms.Surya has become very good in selecting his costumes. Full formals lae orae kalakals.One scene where in he would be chasing nayanthara. Suddenly he forgets everything and says NAYANTHARA "unakku en ippadi verkuthu...enakkum verkuthu..naan unnai chase panninae naa".

3) The most important part of the movie are the scenes between ASIN and SURYA. ASIN has given a terrific performance. Couldn't believe that she could perform so well in comedy sequences. If people wanted to see GAJINI for the second time then this would be the portion they would love to watch. It was so very poetic. People coming out of the movie would certainly remember the dialogue "Avanae naan firstu first bombay airport lae thaan paarthen"

4) Except for the Nayanthara song every song is excellent, well shot but the show stealer definitely would be "Sutrum vizhi sudarae". I personally feel the scenes in the movie dominated more than the songs. So the songs weren’t that catchy....or worth mentioning..Infact it had become a speed breaker to the movie's pace..rather fast pace.

5) Soon after the intermission when they show the villain(s)..I.e. the villain has a twin brother who look alike....we really come to the edge of our seat. Another good start soon after the interval.

6) Thanks to R.D.Rajashekar ..didn’t play too much with his camera. Or else it would have definitely ended up with songs like "Manamathanae nee kalaigna" from the movie Manmathan which would have resulted in the EYE IRRITATION.

7) Last but not the least.....the climax fight...simple superb...well shot..


Even though there are so many good points I have some question

1) Why doesn’t ASIN do anything with her mobile when she is in the room hiding her.

2) Nayanthara gives a cell to Surya. Later when she is caught by the villain, she just searches for surya everywhere instead of calling him....( Is it because of the reason that she has lost the phone or is it bcos Surya couldn’t recognize). No valid reasons were given.


Some aspects which adds to our disappointments are

1) Nayanthara is a biggest minus to the movie. The main reason is that she is so huge and she keeps running the whole movie almost covering the entire screen. That too is bareable. The worst is that she comes in a song with half dressed. We rather feel like going out instead to watch her dance( ...I don’t call it a dance even...)
A sincere advice to her would be to either reduce her weight or dress and act as she did in thalaivar's movie( no need to mention..it is Chandramukhi...)

2)Back ground Score wasn’t that good. Infact it was more of a sound for the first 30 minutes. Though he has done a good job in various places he didn’t give the feel that we wanted.

3) Though the climax fight was good ...it really didn’t give us the feeling of taking the revenge rather the feeling was very less. That force was missing.


Over all the film is EXCELLENT.

The film is also released in correct time. It does not have much of a competition now or at least for a month since there is one more month for Diwali films to get released.

GAJINI - Got the VICTORY in the first attempt ( muthal padai edupilaeyae vendru vitaaan )
